Maybe you are tired of me reporting about Sunset Ridge Subdivision but it is amazing how lots are selling.  On January 16, I signed 4 purchasing lots in Suset Ridge.  On January 28 I signed 1 more.  This week the last 2 lots have been sold.  Covenants say that units must be completed in 24 months.  This will put seven different contractors (dependent upon who some choose to build) in the Sunset Ridge Subdivision.

The council has started discussion concerning a new subdivision as well as a dog park.  We are receiving donations for more improvement at Splinter Park and will be applying for a DNR grant.  I have heard many good comments about the new inclusive playground equipment.

The interior of the Wastewater Treatment Plant has been painted. Planning, ordering and receiving material for the Main Street Project is ongoing.   A savings of 3-7% was achieved by the purchases made prior to end of year 2024.

Chief Lovell and Sgt. Ryan met with the truancy board at the school.  The purpose was to add one more level to the truancy process to try to gain compliance before a truancy ticket is issued. All officers have attended several training sessions this month.  The person that I reported the department hired last month as a police officer failed one of the city’s test so the offer was rescinded.  Recruitment has started again.  In 2024 the department calls for service and case numbers has doubled since 2022.

Cuba City Fire Department finished their yearly recertification.  Four calls were answered in January.

In the recent publication of “She Women of Southwest Wisconsin” which is included in several local newspapers our own Jill Hill was featured.  A very nice picture of Jill and her grandson plus a description of her job which included a foot race with the Director of Public works and also driving a dump truck.  Proud of you, Jill!   Also included in the publication was Victoria Richter who opened Big R Bar.  She is following in her grandparent’s footsteps, keeping a tradition alive.

Nomination papers for the April Spring election to get your name on the ballot had to be in by January 7th.  Those running for alderpersons are Betty Loeffelholz, Steve Tranel, Nate Moris and Tim Hazen.
