As mentioned previously in last month’s mayor message, the city received 17 of the lots in Sunset Ridge Subdivision which the developer failed to have houses built on in the required 18 months.  The city put these 17 lots up for sale at one-half the original price since the city developer had to forfeit the other one half according to the covenant.  The city has now sold seven lots, two of which contain duplexes.  All of these lots must have the buildings up in 24 months.

Construction is well under way in Splinter Park for the restroom/concession stand/pavilion building neat the soccer field.  This is to be completed by the end of the year. The inclusive playground equipment has been ordered and is being laid out.  This too, is to be completed by the end of the year. The total cost of these two projects is just under one million.  The city is seeking donations to help pay for these. 

MSA Engineering Company has been doing some surveying in town concerning the Main Street reconstruction in 2028.  The city has not heard anything from US Rep Derrick Van Orden concerning the 2 million dollar grant he submitted to the federal budget.

The Lion’s Club has started their addition to the pavilion at the Lion’s Park.  The addition will double the size of the existing pavilion.

The two bars that have been closed for approximately 6 months are now opening under new management.  Mitchell McNett of Casey-McNett Funeral Home has started offering services to remember the beloved animals who have passed away.  People in the past who wanted their pets cremated had to work with Peosta, Iowa, or Poynette since there aren’t any locations in the area. Mitchell can offer services for pets up to 300 pounds.

The Cuba City Police Department and Fire Department held an award ceremony on August 14 to honor individuals for their heroic actions.  Corey Heller, Christopher Scharpf, Nate Moris, Kyle Casper, Kyle Kaiser, Joy Heller, Daniel Rindy, Travis VanNatta, Jodi VanNatta, Dustan Duggan, Alana Duggan, Josh Stowe, Todd Goldthorpe,  Zach Lovell, Terry Terpstra, Abigail Kruger, Mitch Kitelinger,  Ryan Bartels and Randy Place received acknowledgement concerning what they did along with a certificate from Sgt. Zach Lowell for their life saving action.

Cuba City Public Library program, Toddler Tales will be held on Wednesdays at 9am.  It will run for 12 weeks from September 4 to November 20.  This program is designed for children who are not in school and last 30-45 minutes and must be accompanied by an adult.  The program is free.

Septemberfest, Curds and Brats Festival will be held Saturday, September 14 at Splinter Park sponsored by Chamber of Commerce.  Time is 1-11pm.  Gate fee is $7 for all ages.  There will be a Car Show, DJ and 2 live bands, food and beer, kid’s games and inflatables/bounce house and fireworks.
